Children’s Garden Day 2
Today was another big day for the garden! I spent more time clearing the area (the weeds are relentless), then laid down burlap sacks to help suppress the pre-existing plants and weeds. The goal is to create a clean slate for our garden, giving us the perfect foundation for all the exciting planting to come. As the burlap breaks down over time, it will also add organic material to the soil, making it even healthier for future growth.
This is my first bigger garden project, and I’ll be honest—I know I’m not doing everything perfectly. But that’s okay! Gardening, like life, is all about learning as you go. I’m embracing the imperfections, the sore muscles, and the occasional “oops” moments because the end result—a space for kids to connect with nature, will be so worth it.
Tomorrow’s plan? More clearing (because there’s always more!), putting up a fence around the garden to define and protect the space, and making several wheelbarrow trips to the compost bin to get rid of the extra plant material.
I’m tired and achy but so excited to see this space coming to life. Stay tuned as this garden takes shape, one imperfect step at a time!
Have any gardening tips for a first-timer tackling a project like this? I’d love to hear them!
